Perth Scorchers fans will be treated to a packed summer holiday schedule, propelled by international cricket and featuring one of the 2023-24 KFC Big Bash League’s coveted marquee matches.

Cricket Australia today revealed the fixture for BBL|13, which keeps Perth squarely in primetime while providing balance for players with reduced cross-country travel.

The Scorchers’ highly anticipated return to Optus Stadium will take place on Wednesday 20 December against Hobart Hurricanes, when Perth plays in front of the Orange Army for the first time since last year’s memorable Final against Brisbane Heat.

In a boon for WA-based cricket fanatics, this contest follows the first NRMA Insurance Test between Australia and Pakistan at the same venue, which is scheduled finish on Monday 18 December.

Christmas festivities continue when Perth hosts Melbourne Renegades for its annual Boxing Day match – one of the most anticipated dates on the MBBL calendar.

They’ll then greet the new year on Wednesday 3 January against Adelaide Strikers at The Furnace, before rounding out their regular season campaign in WA against Brisbane Heat (Saturday 13 January) and fierce rivals Sydney Sixers (Tuesday 16 January).

All the Scorchers’ home games fall within the summer school holidays.

Perth’s players, meanwhile, will play their five away games during two brief stints in the Eastern States.

The first road trip – which launches the back-to-back champions’ title defence – sees Perth meet the Renegades in Geelong on Sunday 10 December, before taking on Melbourne Stars at the MCG on Wednesday 13 December.

A stint at home over Christmas and New Year’s is followed by contests against Adelaide Strikers (Adelaide Oval, Friday 5 January), Sydney Thunder (Sydney Showgrounds, Monday 8 January) and Brisbane Heat (Gabba, Wednesday 10 January).

Reflecting on the fixture, Perth Scorchers General Manager Justin Michael said:

“The prospect of our first home game coming just two days after international cricket is an exciting one for WA-based cricket fans, and we’re confident they’ll turn out in force.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard to make our annual Boxing Day match a showcase event, while the match on 3 January provides us with another opportunity to connect with our fans during the festive period.

“We set the benchmark for the League last year when it came to crowd attendances, with over 280,000 fans turning out across nine games to make Optus Stadium our fortress. We know we’ve got the best fans in the country, and can’t wait to see similar support throughout BBL|13.”

Perth Scorchers Head Coach Adam Voges said:

“The fact we’ve got an extended block in Perth over Christmas and New Year’s is significant, allowing the players and staff to share quality time with their families.

“Travel is one of the major challenges of being based in WA, so having our interstate games condensed into just two blocks is equally significant.

“Our supporters were enormously influential last season, especially during the Final. We can’t wait to band together with them again and replicate the success of the last two years.”
