Title-winning Perth Scorchers batter Nick Hobson is set to light up Optus Stadium for at least another year, signing with the Club for the upcoming KFC BBL|14 season.

It will be Hobson’s sixth campaign in orange, having previously been a squad member during BBL|08, BBL|09, BBL|11, BBL|12 and BBL|13.

Once regarded as a top-order dasher, the 29-year-old has evolved into one of the Scorchers’ most powerful middle-order ball-strikers.

Hobson has made numerous contributions of note during his 29 Scorchers appearances, the most recent an unbeaten 48 from 30 balls to earn Player of the Match honours against Brisbane Heat last season.

However, the defining moment of his career to date came against the same opponent during the BBL|12 Final.

Playing at home before a record crowd of 53,886, Hobson combined with teen sensation Cooper Connolly during the chase to haul in 38 runs from the final three overs.

He completed the job with four deliveries to spare, clearing the mid-wicket fence then finding the third-man boundary to hand the Scorchers their fifth MBBL championship.

Athletic with clean hands, Hobson is also among Perth’s best fielders, capable of influencing the game from multiple positions.

Reflecting on his new Scorchers contract, Hobson said:

“I’m very excited to be sticking around for another year – we’re a tight group and it’s an exciting time to be part of the Club.

“The environment here is great. We have fun as a group, have great support staff and continue to make each other better.

“In terms of the upcoming season, I’m excited to get back in front of our amazing Members and Fans and hopefully we can replicate our previous titles.”

Comments attributable to Perth Scorchers General Manager – High Performance and Elite Teams, Kade Harvey:

“Nick knows exactly how we operate as an organisation and lives by our values, placing the team first in every instance.

“He’s worked hard to turn himself into that middle-order finisher that can have an impact from limited time at the crease. He’s also among our better fielders and sets high standards at training.

“Nick has been part of two title-winning squads and obviously played an important role during the BBL|12 Final. He knows the hard work required for success, and we’re happy to have him on board for BBL|14.”
