Fans got to ask all the hard-hitting questions to Perth Scorchers Assistant Coach Becky Grundy, when she took part in a live question and answer session on the official Perth Scorchers Facebook account to celebrate Women & Girls Week.

Fans were given the opportunity to ask their own questions through the comments feature on the Facebook Live video, with many taking up the opportunity to about the mindset of being a professional coach.

Grundy, who is the current Assistant Coach of the Perth Scorchers Women’s and Head Coach of the WA Women’s side, spoke openly about her coaching journey.

“The biggest enjoyment I get out of the game is helping shape people, to be able to work with players and help mentor them, is the best thing about what I do,” she said.

“Coaching has it’s challenges, but it is also so rewarding at every level.”

Grundy was involved in the Scorchers’ title winning WBBL|07 campaign, saying it’s the greatest achievement in her coaching career to date.

“The title win for the Scorchers last season was amazing, it was a super special group to be a part of and have to that success for the first time in franchise history was amazing.”

Grundy has also had the opportunity to work closely with Head Coach Shelley Nitschke over the past couple of seasons, with Grundy appreciative of the mentorship she has received during their time together.

“The main learning for me from Shelley is to keep things simple from a messaging point of view, she has allowed me to develop my own coaching style as well, which has been great,” she said.

Grundy also praised the influence of Nitschke on the playing group, saying she has been a major reason behind the recent success of the franchise.

“She has a calming influence on the group, and I think her energy has a positive effect on the way our group performs,” she said.

“Shelley has been a wonderful mentor for me, and I am glad that I have had the opportunity to work alongside her.”

Running from 21-27 November, Cricket Australia’s inaugural Women and Girls Week celebrates the invaluable contribution of cricket’s female volunteers, coaches, officials, players and administrators by showcasing the people and initiatives that ensure women’s game goes from strength to strength.
