The 2022-23 Weber Women’s Big Bash League Team of the Season has been named, with Perth Scorchers star opener Beth Mooney selected in the competition’s best XI, after being voted in by the eight club head coaches.

Mooney was selected to open in the Team of the Tournament after another standout effort with the bat, scoring 434 runs to solidify her position as the highest run-scorer of the WBBL08 regular season.

She became the first player in the competition’s history to pass 4,000 runs, enhancing her reputation as the best batter in WBBL history.

Mooney passed 50 on three occasions during WBBL08, including a match-winning 99 not out to guide the Scorchers to a dominant nine-wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers at Lilac Hill.

She also produced a player-of-the-match performance (90 off 58 balls) as the Scorchers crushed the Melbourne Renegades by 104 runs, the largest victory in WBBL history.

Mooney is joined in the team by the Heat’s Georgia Redmayne, who takes the gloves after snaring a League-best 11 dismissals this campaign. Alyssa Healy, who made her fifth WBBL century for the Sixers this season, bats at first drop.

Mooney was proud to be selected in the competitions best XI in WBBL08, but said team success remains her main priority.

“It’s nice to be recognised in this year’s Team of the Tournament, alongside a heap of talented players,” Mooney said.

“Team success, however, is what we strive for as players and we’re bitterly disappointed that our campaign ended early.

“The group has already started to reflect on what it can do better next year, and we look forward to pushing for another title in WBBL09.”

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, said:

“Congratulations to all 12 players selected in the Weber WBBL|08 Team of the Tournament.

“The side is stacked with powerful batting and skilful bowling and would be competitive against any opponents worldwide.

“The announcement of this side also coincides with the beginning of Women and Girls Week, which celebrates the contribution of women at all levels of the game. What better way to begin the week than recognising the outstanding performers from the Weber WBBL|08 season.”
