The order of selections has been confirmed for both the Weber WBBL|09 and KFC BBL|13 Overseas Player Drafts, to be held on Sunday, September 3, and broadcast on Fox Cricket.

Weighted lotteries were undertaken on Friday, July 14, to determine the order of selections. For each competition, the clubs who missed out on Finals last season were selected from the first draw with the remaining Clubs entered into the second draw.

Weber WBBL|09 Overseas Player Draft

The selection order for the inaugural Weber WBBL Overseas Player Draft has been revealed with the Sydney Thunder receiving the first ever pick.

After failing to qualify for the Weber WBBL|08 Finals, four teams were entered into the first draw: Perth Scorchers (one entry), Melbourne Stars (two entries), Melbourne Renegades (three entries) and Sydney Thunder (four entries). The Clubs who played in Finals last year, including reigning champions Adelaide Strikers, were placed in the second draw.

The Scorchers will take pick 3 (Platinum Only), Pick 11 (Platinum and Gold), Pick 22 (Gold and Silver) and Pick 27 into the Inaugural Weber Women’s Big Bash League Draft, after finishing fifth in WBBL|08.

The rules of the Draft will follow the same as the Men’s event last year, meaning each club have the right to retain at least one of their three internationals from last season.

New Zealand pair Sophie Devine and Maddy Green or South African superstar Marizanne Kapp are all eligible to be retained ahead of WBBL|09.

Following the Lottery, the order of selections for the Weber WBBL|09 Overseas Player Draft are confirmed as follows:

Pick 1: Sydney Thunder

Pick 2: Melbourne Renegades

Pick 3: Perth Scorchers

Pick 4: Melbourne Stars

Pick 5: Hobart Hurricanes

Pick 6: Brisbane Heat

Pick 7: Sydney Sixers

Pick 8: Adelaide Strikers

KFC BBL|13 Overseas Player Draft

The Melbourne Stars have received the first pick for the KFC BBL|13 Overseas Player Draft.

As with the WBBL Draft, the teams who missed the BBL|12 Finals – Hobart Hurricanes (one entry), Adelaide Strikers (two entries) and the Melbourne Stars (three entries) – were entered into the first draw. Last year’s Pick 1 holders, the Melbourne Renegades, have received the fourth pick in this year’s Draft after finishing fourth in BBL|12.

After winning back-to-back Big Bash League titles in BBL|11 and BBL|12, the Scorchers have received Pick 8 in the Platinum round, followed by picks 16,17 and 32 to round out the four-round draft proceedings.

The Scorchers drafted Englishmen Laurie Evans, Tymal Mills and Phil Salt with their three selections last season, but due to a range of varied circumstances, none of them represented the Scorchers in BBL|12.

The trio, along with South African legend Faf Du Plessis, Adam Lyth, Stephen Eskinazi and David Payne are eligible to be retained by the five-time champions ahead of BBL|13.

Following the Lottery, the order of selections for the KFC BBL|13 Overseas Player Draft are confirmed as follows:

Pick 1: Melbourne Stars

Pick 2: Adelaide Strikers

Pick 3: Hobart Hurricanes

Pick 4: Melbourne Renegades

Pick 5: Sydney Thunder

Pick 6: Sydney Sixers

Pick 7: Brisbane Heat

Pick 8: Perth Scorchers

The Drafts

The Weber WBBL and KFC BBL Overseas Player Drafts will follow the same guidelines and format. The Drafts will feature four rounds, with clubs able to select a minimum of two and maximum of three players in total, each Club will be required to pass in at least one round. Rounds 1 and 2 will follow the respective orders stated above, with Rounds 3 and 4 following a snaking order. The League has also introduced the ability for Clubs to trade Draft picks which could result in changes to the order.
