Perth Scorchers’ bowling stocks have been boosted for the 2022-23 Weber Women’s Big Bash League season with the addition of exciting quick and former Australia international Holly Ferling.

Armed with genuine pace and the ability to bowl at any stage of the innings, Ferling joins Perth having previously represented Brisbane Heat, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL.

The 26-year-old Queensland product – who signed with ACT Meteors in the off-season – is also highly regarded for her leadership qualities and known as an excellent mentor to younger players.

Ferling played 34 games for Australia across all three formats (three Tests, 22 ODIs, nine T20Is) between 2013 and 2016, making her international debut aged 17.

She finished last year’s Women’s National Cricket League campaign as the competition’s most economical bowler (minimum 15 overs), conceding just 2.59 runs per over, and subsequently earned the Queensland Fire Players’ Player award.

Ferling already has several connections within the Scorchers’ squad as a former teammate of Beth Mooney, Alana King and Lilly Mills.

Reflecting on the decision to join the reigning WBBL champions, Ferling said:

“I am absolutely pumped! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to head West. The Scorchers are a club I’ve admired from afar for quite some time with the way they carry themselves and go about the contest.

“I hope I can be another bowling option for an already dominant Scorchers attack, whether it’s in the Powerplay or through the middle. I love the pace and bounce of the WACA Ground and have some amazing memories playing there over my career.

“The Scorchers fans are the most fierce and loyal fans that I’ve witnessed around the country. As an opposition team, it was always intimidating to arrive at Lilac Hill or the WACA Ground to see a sea of orange. I can’t wait to see them out in full force at each of our home games.

“I’ve been fortunate to play alongside Kingy (Alana King), Moons (Beth Mooney) and Lil (Lilly Mills) in other teams across the WBBL and WNCL, and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the team from them all.”

Perth Scorchers WBBL Head Coach Shelley Nitschke said:

“Getting Holly to Perth is a big result for the Club, and we believe she’ll fit beautifully into our bowling attack.

“She also offers a lot of experience, both in the WBBL and on the international stage, and has great leadership qualities.

“We’re excited to see what she can do in WBBL|08.”

The Scorchers have four list spots to fill ahead of their WBBL title defence, which begins on Sunday 16 October.
