Matt Gilbert from Frankland River Primary School has been named the Perth Scorchers School Ambassador for Term 1, 2022.As a dedicated Sports and Maths Specialist at the small rural school 350km south of Perth, Matt makes cricket fun and enjoyable for his students and is constantly modifying his lessons to keep things fresh and engaging.
Thanks to Matt’s creativity during his sessions, his students are interested and eager to learn how to develop their cricket skills with friends, which carries through to their time spent away from the school.
Darcey Middleton, Cricket Manager for the Great Southern says Matt is a fantastic ambassador for the sport.
“During my first visit to Frankland River Primary School, I arrived at 8:15am to find half of the school playing rapid fire batting on the school oval and the other half of the school doing a different cricket drill!” he said.
With only 55 enrolments in the entire school, teachers and support staff can build a strong rapport with students.
“Of the 32 students in pre-primary to year four, 20 are playing cricket blast!” Darcey Middleton said.
“Matt is a clear leader in the local community and well respected by all.”
Congratulations Matt!
