Star quick Jhye Richardson has recommitted his future to Perth Scorchers, signing a two-year contract extension until the end of the KFC BBL|16 season.

Called up for his Scorchers debut in BBL|05 as a teenager with exciting potential, Richardson is now well established among the competition’s top bracket of bowlers.

The 28-year-old won championships with Perth in BBL|06 and BBL|11, performing exceptionally well in each decider to enhance his reputation as a big game player.

He is one of three Scorchers to take 100 BBL wickets alongside Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff, reaching the milestone against Adelaide Strikers on New Year’s Eve.

Richardson’s tally of 29 wickets in BBL|10, meanwhile, remains a Club record for any single campaign.

Armed with excellent control, tactical nous and the ability to swing the ball at speeds exceeding 140km/h, the Fremantle product is dangerous in all phases of the bowling innings.

Experiences representing Australia in all formats as well as multiple Indian Premier League franchises have further honed Richardson’s rare skillset.

His contract extension follows recent announcements of multi-year deals for decorated skipper Ashton Turner (BBL|18) and strike bowler Lance Morris (BBL|16).

Reflecting on recommitting to the Scorchers, Richardson said:

“The Scorchers are such an amazing Club. As a player I’ve felt appreciated and supported, no matter the circumstances.

“It’s a unique franchise because most of us play together for 12 months of the year. We’ve built really strong relationships together that help us understand each other’s games, which goes a long way towards being successful.

“Performing well is nice on a personal note, but it’s equally rewarding to be able to contribute to team success. Despite having a lot of injuries and setbacks in recent years, it’s still nice to be involved with all the success we’ve had as a Club.

“I’m excited to get stuck in for the next two years and see how far we can go.”
