The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reversed its earlier decision to hold the player draft ceremony for the 10th HBL Pakistan Super League in Gwadar, opting instead to move the event to Lahore. The ceremony will now take place on its original date, January 11, in Lahore.
According to Dawn, sources close to the matter revealed that the venue change followed logistical concerns raised by several PSL franchises regarding holding the draft in the coastal city of Balochistan. While Gwadar has potential as a future business hub, challenges related to accommodating foreign nationals, including franchise officials and staff, as well as ensuring smooth operations, led to the decision.
Initially, the PCB had planned to hold the draft in Gwadar to boost the city’s profile. However, a lack of enthusiasm from the franchises, who were expected to invite foreign officials for the ceremony, led to a preference for Lahore. This played a significant role in the shift.
It was also noted that the PCB had not consulted the franchises prior to selecting Gwadar as the venue, and while there were no immediate objections, concerns from foreign coaches and staff eventually led to the request for a venue change.
