The life and career of former Queensland and Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds will be celebrated at a public memorial service this Friday at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium.
The service will feature tributes to Symonds who passed away in a car accident on Saturday May 14 outside of Townsville.
Former Australian and Queensland teammates Ian Healy, Adam Gilchrist, Darren Lehmann, Jimmy Maher and Matthew Mott will share tales of their times with Symonds while poet and friend Rupert McCall will deliver a poem celebrating the many stages of his career.
The public memorial service will be held between 2.30pm and 4pm at Riverway Stadium, with all welcome and a dress code of ‘definitely no jacket and tie required.’
The venue will open at 2pm and the event live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
The Queensland Cricketers’ Club at the Gabba will also show the live stream from the Townsville memorial service. They will open from 12pm with bar and food service available.
Riverway Stadium is located at 2 Sporting Drive, Thuringowa Central, Townsville.
A private charter flight has been secured and is available for bookings by those seeking to attend the public memorial service in person in Townsville.
The charter flight will depart on Friday morning from Brisbane at 6am and return on Saturday departing from Townsville at midday.

A private funeral service will be held earlier in the day with Symonds’ family requesting that their wishes for privacy continue to be respected.
Media arrangements surrounding the services, including access to vision, will be confirmed later this week.
