The Queensland Bulls and Queensland Fire will set their sights on silverware this summer, with the release of the 2023-24 domestic cricket fixtures today.

Cricket Australia today unveiled dates for the Marsh Sheffield Shield, Marsh One Day Cup and Women’s National Cricket League for the coming season, with matches underway from late September and going through until the end of March.

The Bulls will play matches at the Gabba and Allan Border Field, as well as make a return to Mackay where Great Barrier Reef Arena will host matches in October.

In keeping with Queensland Cricket’s on-going commitment to take top level cricket to regional centres, the Bulls will play a Marsh Sheffield Shield game and Marsh One Day match against Victoria in Mackay.

It will be the first time since the 2015-16 season that Queensland has played a Shield game in Mackay while the Bulls last played a domestic one-day game at the venue in 2011-12.

The Shield game will run from 14-17 October and the One Dayer will be played on 19 October.

Acting Queensland Cricket CEO Liam Hibbert said the ongoing presence of Weber Women’s Big Bash League games and the re-introduction of domestic men’s cricket to the Mackay-Whitsunday region would continue to help with growing the game.

“The support for cricket from the region remains strong and we are very pleased to partner again with the Mackay Regional Council, Harrup Park and Mackay Cricket Association to bring top class matches and teams to Great Barrier Reef Arena,’’ he said.

“In the longer term, the redevelopment of the Gabba for the 2032 Olympics will mean Queensland Cricket will continue to work closely with venues and councils in regional Queensland such as Cairns, Mackay, Gold Coast and Townsville to identify future cricket opportunities.”

The Fire will play four home WNCL one-day matches at their traditional stronghold of Allan Border Field as well as two matches at Peter Burge Oval at Wellington Point, the headquarters of Redlands Cricket.

The Bulls finished third and fourth in the Shield and One Day competitions respectively last summer, while the Fire narrowly missed the WNCL Final to also finish third.

Queensland squad players will also be involved in the male Toyota 2nd XI competition during the summer as well as National Youth championships at Under-19 male and female levels.

The Fire will play their first games at Cricket NSW’s Cricket Central facility at Sydney Olympic Park, taking on the Breakers on September 22 and 24 to open the 2023-24 season.

The Bulls will also be in action in the same timeframe, hosting Marsh Cup defending champions Western Australia in a day game on 24 September and then playing South Australia in a day/night clash on 28 September in a burst of early season games at Allan Border Field.
