Fresh from winning National titles in the same season for the first time, the Queensland Bulls and Queensland Fire will embark on their next quest in 2021-22 with a sharp, retro look.
Queensland Cricket has signed on with global sports apparel heavyweight New Balance as part of a new Australia-wide deal brokered by Cricket Australia, the second time that New Balance has partnered with QC.
The new three-year deal comes after Australian company Belgravia Sports Apparel agreed to a partnership last year with New Balance Inc to deliver an elite teamwear apparel model to the Australasian Professional sports market.
Queensland Cricket previously had New Balance as a footwear partner for four seasons, under a separate agreement that concluded in 2018.
The new supplier arrangement will see the Bulls and Fire decked out in New Balance branded playing kit for the Marsh Sheffield Shield, Marsh One Day Cup and Women’s National Cricket League competitions this summer.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the deal was exciting for domestic cricket.
“We’re busy finalizing the playing and training apparel for the summer along with some key sponsor activity and we’re pleased to be working alongside Belgravia and New Balance to achieve that,’’ he said.
The Marsh One-Day Cup and Women’s National Cricket League playing apparel has been designed with a ‘retro’ feel, inspired by colourful domestic one-day uniforms of years past, with Queensland sourcing a design from the mid 1990s.
Darren Tucker, (Vice President New Balance Asia Pacific) said:
“New Balance is excited to be working with Belgravia Sports, State and Territory Associations and Cricket Australia on this program.
“New Balance is currently in a very exciting development stage and the relationship with cricket and the elite and pathway players gives the brand a great opportunity to build on the already exciting growth the brand is experiencing
“We look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship between all parties.”
Queensland Cricket also welcomed Belgravia Sports Apparel (BSA) as a partner in the arrangement. BSA are the Australasian elite teamwear partner of New Balance supplying both supporter and performance products for all elite partners.
The Bulls will begin their season later this month when they play a Marsh Sheffield Shield clash against Tasmania at Ian Healy Oval at Norths from 28 September followed by a Marsh One Day Cup match at the same venue against the Tigers on 3 October.
It will be the inaugural first class match at the venue.
The Queensland Fire will now start their Women’s National Cricket after the Weber Women’s Big Bash League, with Cricket Australia announcing the competition postponement due to COVID-19 travel constraints.
