Wicket-keeper Georgia Redmayne will make her return for the Queensland Fire in this week’s opening rounds of the Women’s National Cricket League in Sydney.
While Redmayne will complete her lengthy recovery from a torn Achilles tendon, the Fire will be without Australia allrounder Grace Harris who is recovering from a minor surgical procedure this week.
She is expected to be available for Queensland’s next round matches, against Victoria at Peter Burge Oval at Wellington Point on October 10 and 12.
Redmayne made a successful comeback to competitive cricket last week, playing a warm-up game against a Queensland Veterans’ men’s team and for Wests in the Katherine Raymont Shield.
She snapped her Achilles tendon while appealing for a dismissal in the Brisbane Heat’s preliminary final loss to eventual Weber WBBL champions Adelaide Strikers at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide in November last year.
After having surgery, she has undergone an exhaustive rehabilitation process across the off-season.
Harris’s older sister Laura will suit-up for Queensland after returning last week in the wake of playing in The Hundred in England and Caribbean Premier League over the past two months.
Queensland will travel to Sydney today to prepare for their one-day matches against NSW Breakers at Cricket Central tomorrow and Sunday.
Former ACT Meteors allrounder Zoe Cooke is in line to make her debut for Queensland after being signed to a Fire contract during the winter.
Several of the squad come into the series with solid form from the KFC T20 Max and opening rounds of the Katherine Raymont Shield competition.
Australian Under-19 allrounder Sianna Ginger had a day out for Valley, scoring 108 from 93 balls and taking 5-29 in their win over Gold Coast.
Opener Georgia Voll hit 178 for Sandgate-Redcliffe against Ipswich on the weekend, while leg-spinning allrounder Grace Parsons scored 126 for Western Suburbs against Wynnum-Manly.
Voll was a stand-out for the Gators in the KFC T20 Max competition, producing a superb 118 from 65 balls and taking 4-19 as they overcame Valley in the Final at Allan Border Field.
