India‘s premier spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, announced his retirement from international cricket at the end of the Gabba Test in Australia, which concluded in a draw. Although Ashwin was not part of the playing eleven, he shared the news during a press conference following the match. The Tamil Nadu spinner ends his international career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, behind Anil Kumble.

“This will be my last year as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin said. “I feel there’s a little bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I’d like to express that, showcase that in club-level cricket.”

As of 2024, Ashwin’s net worth is estimated at Rs 132 crore (approximately $16 million), according to Sportskeeda. His wealth primarily stems from his cricket career, including international and IPL matches, alongside lucrative endorsement deals that have solidified his stature off the field.

During the 2022-23 season, Ashwin was in Grade A of the BCCI central contracts, earning an annual salary of Rs 5 crore. His IPL career began with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2008, with the 2010 season marking his rise to prominence due to his skillful use of the carrom ball. After CSK’s suspension in 2016, he joined Rising Pune Supergiants. In 2018, Kings XI Punjab signed Ashwin for Rs 7.6 crore, and he captained the team. In 2024, he represented Rajasthan Royals with a salary of Rs 5 crore.

For the 2025 IPL season, Ashwin will return to Chennai Super Kings after being acquired for Rs 9.75 crore at the mega auction. Rajasthan Royals released him prior to the auction, concluding his tenure with the team in 2024.

Off the field, Ashwin has built a strong portfolio of brand endorsements, reportedly charging Rs 4.5-5 crore per deal. He has collaborated with brands such as Zoomcar, Moov, Myntra, Manna Health, Bombay Shaving Company, Oppo, Aristocrat Bags, and Colgate.

Ashwin’s success has afforded him a luxurious lifestyle. In 2021, he purchased a lavish home in Chennai, where he lives with his wife, Prithi Ashwin, and their two daughters. His car collection includes high-end vehicles like a Rolls-Royce worth Rs 6 crore and an Audi Q7 valued at Rs 93 lakh.

Ashwin concludes his Test career with 537 wickets in 106 matches at an average of 24, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format. He also scored 3,503 runs, including six centuries and 14 half-centuries, joining an elite group of all-rounders with over 3,000 runs and 300 wickets. Additionally, he holds the joint record for most Player-of-the-Series awards, tied with Muthiah Muralidaran at 11.
