British Columbia based incumbent Rashpal Bajwa has been re-elected as Cricket Canada’s President for a second two-year term. Mr. Bajwa’s re-election, by acclamation following the last minute withdrawal of his only challenger Hamilton & District Cricket League President Ranjit Chaudhri, occurred during Cricket Canada’s May 7-8, 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Halifax Nova Scotia’s Marriot Harbourfront Hotel.

Since immigrating to Canada from his native Jalandhar in 1996, Rashpal Bajwa has had a most illustrious involvement in Canadian cricket. He started as a player in 1997, mere months after his arrival, and just as quickly also became actively involved as an administrator.

In 2008 he was elected as a Delegate to the British Columbia Mainland Cricket League (BCMCL). Two years later, in 2010, he became the BCMCL’s Vice President. By the following year, 2011, Rashpal had also become Cricket BC’s Vice President. In 2013 he was elected as Cricket BC’s President. In 2016 he was then elected as Cricket Canada’s Vice-President, a position which he held until 202o when he assumed the role of President for his initial two-year term.

The 2022 Cricket Canada AGM, the first since the onset of COVID to have attendees physically present, also witnessed the re-election of Farhan Khan as Secretary and Amjad Bajwa as Director-at-Large. Rohit Aggarwal was also elected as a Director-at- Large for his very first term.

During the two-day meeting, which was attended by representatives of all tem of Cricket Canada’s member provinces, plans for the implementation of several exciting initiatives aimed towards the further development and promotion of Canadian cricket were also formulated. The initiatives that have been identified for implementation within the immediate future include the launching of a new High Performance League, a revamped domestic structure to include a Canada National T20 tournament with full participation of all provinces and the execution of a new Strategic Plan.

Attendees were also provided with updates from the Umpires Committee, reports on Cricket Canada’s recently increased social media activities, as well as plans for the imminent launching of a new website.
