As Saba Karim’s tenure as Board of Control for Cricket in India’s General Manager for Game Development comes to an end, Dhiraj Malhotra is set to take over the coveted post. The post will oversee game development and operations. Karim held the position for three years but tendered his letter of resignation when the Sourav Ganguly-led administration came into force.
“Yes, Dhiraj Malhotra has been formally appointed as GM (Game Development). He will be joining from Monday, February 15,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.
Malhotra was with the Delhi Capitals over the past two seasons of the Indian Premier League as their Chief Executive Officer prior to which he also worked at the International Cricket Council. The source also said that this appointment is mainly based on the expertise and vast knowledge that Malhotra brings to the table.
The GM of Game Development will take care of various areas, such as; with respect to the match regulations, the standards of the venues, which also include the condition of the pitches and the Domestic Tours Programme, among other things.
“Dhiraj’s joining Delhi franchise coincided with two of their best seasons, including a playoff and a second-place finish. Also, when he was with DC, he was asked to help out at the ODI World Cup in England due to his vast knowledge,” the source said.
