Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual day in honour of Nelson Mandela. Celebrated annually on his birthday on 18 July, the Lions Cricket Pride will, for the fourth year running, be all hands-on deck with powerful partners Ashraful Aid and The Angel Network.
“Let us join hands and build a truly South African nation” – Nelson Mandela Packing and providing with passion is the name of the game when it comes to long-standing and valued partners Ashraful Aid and The Angel Network, as thousands of food hampers are packed with love and care on the iconic oval. In an effort to bring together charities and communities under the cricketing banner, the trio of partners are calling on all corporates and individuals from far and wide to come and get involved, so says Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright;
“Our fans will know of our belief of One Team, One Stadium, One City of Gold. And that’s why we’re reaching out to the friends, fans and families of Lions Cricket: There is no better way to honour Madiba than to give of your time. A tremendous THANK YOU to The Angel Network and Ashraful Aid: It is our honour to play our part with you. A huge call out for #ThePrideOfJozi to come join us at DP World Wanderers Stadium and help build an even better Province and Country.”
“In the true spirit of Ubuntu and remembering our great leader, Nelson Mandela, The Angel Network will once again host our annual Hearts Build Homes event at DP World Wanderers Stadium.
Connecting those keen to assist, with those who need assistance, The Angel Network will once again go above and beyond, giving a hand up to those in need,” so says Glynne Wolman, CEO of The Angel Network.
Ashraful Aid CEO ,Suhail Wadee says that they’ve set themselves their toughest target yet;
“Every day as we deliver aid around Johannesburg and across the country, our team sees the desperate situation that many people find themselves in. This has motivated us to do even more this Mandela Day, aiming to pack a massive 5,000 food parcels to provide nourishing meals for up to 20,000 people. Over the past three years, we have seen the outpouring of generosity from hundreds of individuals and corporates that make a positive impact on the lives of thousands more. This year, as we set out on our most ambitious goal yet, we once again encourage corporates and individuals to be part of the largest volunteer event on Mandela Day and join us in embracing Mandela’s spirit of service and generosity by uniting to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.”
In line with the 2024 Mandela Day theme “It is in your hands” It is essential to recognize the impact that collaboration can have on positive change, and it seemed apt that we partner once again with Ashraful Aid and The Angel Network to combat poverty. We would like to urge you to join us at the DP World Wanderers Stadium and lend a helping hand, may we continue to be the change we want to see says Lions Cricket CSI Lead, Zethu Kaka;
“Those eager to get involved, come spend your 67 minutes on the DP World Wanderers Stadium field from 09h00 onwards on 18 July 2024. Interspersed with DP World Lions cricketing hero’s and heroine’s, your time spent will undoubtedly be rewarding, heartwarming and star-studded.”
Wishing everyone a wonderful and blessed Mandela Day as South Africa and the world joins hands once again to continue the legacy of our great leader, Tata Nelson Mandela who in his words reminds us, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
