Report: BCCI to probe Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma’s poor show following BGT

Must Read

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to take action as head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma are expected to face scrutiny following India’s disappointing performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

India suffered a significant batting collapse in the last Test at the MCG, failing to secure a draw from a comfortable position, which led to their defeat.

According to a report on Cricbuzz, following losses at the Adelaide Oval and Melbourne, the Indian cricket board plans to pose tough questions to coach Gambhir and captain Rohit after the series concludes in Sydney. The fifth and final Test, scheduled from January 3-7, sees Australia leading the series 2-1, with India aiming to salvage some pride with a victory.

The report also suggests that Rohit will likely be questioned for dropping Shubman Gill in the MCG Test. Despite Gill’s better performance in his last 15 Test innings compared to Rohit, Gill was benched while Rohit took his place as opener but failed to perform.

Under Gambhir’s tenure, India has faced several surprising results, including an ODI series loss to Sri Lanka and a home Test series defeat to New Zealand. The board expects more from the players under the new coach.

While Gambhir may not face as much questioning due to his limited involvement in the last Test’s playing XI selection, Rohit is expected to face tougher questions. A decision on the team’s future direction may also be made in a closed-door meeting.
