Kumar Sangakkara who is also the Royals’ Director of Cricket was in South Africa a week before the tournament began to check on his team, Paarl Royals. However, returning now with the entire committee provided the opportunity to delve into discussions that hold significant relevance for world cricket’s present state and its future.
Speaking of the SA20, Sangakkara said, “The current SA20 product holds immense potential, and its future improvements are promising. The fans’ love and enjoyment, evident in their enthusiastic support for local teams, contribute to its success. The substantial attendance, especially by children, along with the passion displayed by players, owners, and the entire community, establishes a strong and delightful connection. The overall experience has been nothing short of brilliant.”
Speaking of her experience, English cricketer Heather Knight said, “It’s been an amazing experience. Cape Town holds a special place in my heart, and being my inaugural World Committee meeting, it’s wonderful to connect with everyone in this beautiful setting. Moreover, having the opportunity to experience the SA20 firsthand is truly exciting; I’ve followed it from afar, and it seems like a tremendously enjoyable tournament.”
“It’s been an incredible experience. Returning to South Africa holds a special place in my heart, with fond memories of Cape Town from both my playing and coaching days. The bus ride to the ground highlights the MI’s (MICT) influence, and it’s heartening to see a vibrant crowd. The picturesque ground adds to the charm, and as always, witnessing a diverse audience enjoying the game of cricket, regardless of attire, ball colour, or match duration, is truly exciting. The sheer joy of people watching cricket is undoubtedly a positive and enriching aspect of the sport,” added Justin Langer who was present at Saturday’s game between MICT and Pretoria Capitals.
