England allrounder Chris Woakes will call Kingsmead home for Betway SA20 Season 3 after signing for Durban’s Super Giants.
Woakes will add vast experience to the DSG line-up after being an influential member of England’s successful ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia in 2022.
The 35-year-old is, in fact, a double World Cup winner after also spearheading England’s new-ball attack during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in 2019.
Woakes has enjoyed an extensive international and T20 franchise league career and will add a great deal of quality with both bat and ball.
He has played 162 T20s, claiming 172 wickets at an average of 25.19 and economy of 8.21, while also scoring 1021 runs at an average of 21.27.
Woakes has also been a prominent figure at the Indian Premier League after initially signing for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 before moving to Royal Challengers Bangalore and then Delhi Capitals and is now currently with the Punjab Kings.
Woakes joins former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and West Indies opener Brandon King as DSG’s third new overseas signing for next season.
Each squad competing in South Africa’s premier T20 cricket league comprises 19 players, which includes a Rookie and Wildcard, with a maximum of eight overseas players allowed.
For the matchday Playing XI, teams can field a maximum of four overseas players and a minimum of seven South Africans.
