SACA is delighted to confirm that the 86,617 fans who attended the Day/Night NRMA Insurance Test at Adelaide Oval have set the highest crowd number for a Test Match between the two sides at the venue in more than 40 years.
Not since the summer of 1981/82, when Clive Lloyd led the West Indies to a thrilling five-wicket victory over Greg Chappell’s Australia, have so many fans flowed through the Adelaide Oval gates to witness international cricket between the two sides.
That game was played over the full five days, while the Test that has just concluded had a winner within the opening session of day four.
The members and supporters who flocked to the ground were entertained by an emphatic Australian victory as well as the first hundred scored by a South Australian in a Test Match at the Adelaide Oval in 28 years, with Travis Head falling agonisingly short of a double ton on day two.
SACA CEO Charlie Hodgson said it was incredible to see the Members Stands and Village Green filled with such positivity and energy.
“When everyone around the world thinks of Day/Night cricket, they think of Adelaide. This is because of the incredible support our Members and wider public give to the marquee event of the summer. The loyalty of our Membership over the years is hugely appreciated.
“Cricket at Adelaide Oval is the perfect way to spend time with friends and family leading into Christmas while watching the events on field and enjoying the festival atmosphere of the Village Green.
“I am so thankful to our Members, of which we have a record number, for continuing to support this brilliant event by turning up in such numbers and showing the world that cricket in South Australia is as strong as it has ever been.”
