Following the return to their historical name, the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) announce the appointment of Nathan McSweeney as Captain of the South Australia Men’s Cricket Team for the upcoming season.

McSweeney, a hard-hitting batsman and handy off-spinner, brings a wealth of experience to the leadership role. Having previously captained Australia A on their recent tour of New Zealand, McSweeney is well-respected by his teammates and possesses a proven track record of success.

Last week crowned Dansie Medallist as the strongest performing male player in South Australia, McSweeney can’t wait to get started as skipper.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be named Captain of the South Australian Men’s Team,” McSweeney said.

“This is a team with a rich history and passionate fanbase, and I’m excited about the challenge of leading the group forward, especially as we return to our proud South Australian identity.”

Interim Head Coach Ryan Harris praised McSweeney’s leadership qualities and cricketing ability.

“McSweeney is a natural leader who inspires confidence in those around him,” Harris said.

“He has a deep understanding of the game and a strong work ethic; both will be invaluable assets in his new role. We know Nathan is the right person to lead this team forward and we are delighted to appoint him as State captain.”

Harris also acknowledged current State Captain Travis Head’s outstanding contribution and thanked Jake Lehmann for his captaincy this season in the absence of Travis.

“A big thank you to Travis and Jake, their continued dedication and passion for South Australian Cricket has been invaluable,” Harris said.

McSweeney’s experience leading Australia A came after a string of impressive domestic performances, with the right-hander boasting five First-Class centuries and nine crucial half-centuries, highlighted by a genuine ability to perform under pressure. McSweeney’s leadership will be a crucial element in the South Australian Men’s performance this coming season.
