West End Redbacks batter Henry Hunt has today decided to step down from his role as state captain, with Jake Lehmann to lead the side for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

Hunt has captained the Redbacks in Marsh Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup cricket in the absence of long-term captain Travis Head, who has been a regular fixture in the national squad in recent years.

Hunt has made the decision to pass the captaincy on to Lehmann so he can focus on scoring as many runs as possible for South Australia.

“I have loved my time leading South Australia and thank the players and support staff for their guidance. I have learnt a huge amount about not just cricket but myself as a person and I am extremely thankful for that opportunity.

“I look forward to focusing on contributing as much as possible for South Australia for the remainder of the summer.”

Having already captained South Australia in the past, Lehmann will step into the role for Sunday’s Marsh One-Day Cup clash against Victoria at Adelaide Oval.

The West End Redbacks have named an unchanged squad for their ‘semi-final’ against Victoria on Sunday.

After some strong individual bowling performances in their Marsh Sheffield Shield loss against Victoria this week, the West End Redbacks will be out for revenge as they look to lock in a Final spot in the white ball format.

South Australia and Victoria head into the final round on even points with the winner to take on the undefeated Western Australia in a Perth based Final on Wednesday, March 8.

First ball in Sunday’s match is at 10:00am ACDT, with gates opening at 9:00am.

SACA Members are able to enter Adelaide Oval as a benefit of Membership, while entry for general public is $10, with children free.
