SLC MAJOR LEAGUE TIER ‘A’ PLATE CHAMPIONSHIP
Moors SC declared the first innings on a mammoth 599 for 9 declared with the fifth wicket overnight pair of Nipun Karunanayake and Ramesh Mendis going on to complete their centuries on the second day of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major League Tier ‘A’ Plate Championship third week match at the NCC Grounds on Sunday. Lankan CC had replied with 209 for 5 wickets at stumps.
When Moors resumed, Karunananayake who was on 97 went on to make 142 off 184 balls hitting 16 boundaries and 4 sixes while Mendis took his overnight score of 71 to 104 off 101 balls inclusive of 9 boundaries and 3 sixes. The partnership was worth 213 runs.
Lankan CC’s response was swift with opening batsman Malinga Amarasinghe striking and off 156 balls packed with 10 boundaries and 4 sixes and his opening partner Primosh Perera compiling a 122-ball 65 filled with 8 boundaries. The partnership for the first wicket realised 164 runs. But Moors struck two quick blows claiming the wickets of No.3 Umesh Lakshan and No.5 Udith Madushan for ducks as Lankan CC lost the next three wickets for just 19 runs following the dismissal of Perera.
Negombo CC 371 lead by 187 Vs. Tamil Union 45/1 2nd innings
Negombo CC scored 371 to take a first innings lead of 187 runs over Tamil Union C& AC at the Colts Grounds . Tamil Union were 45 for 1 wicket in the second innings.
Negombo CC’s opening batsman Ashen Silva, who was on 55, went on to make 90 off 186 balls hitting 12 fours and a six while skipper Dilshan Munaweera, who was on 57, made 85 off 131 inclusive of 10 boundaries as the second wicket partnership realised 158. No.5 batsman Madawa Warnapura continued his fine form in the tournament with another polished knock of 84 off 120 containing 13 boundaries and a six.
Maduka Liyanapathiranage took 6 for 54 for Tamil Union.
SSC 583 Dasun Shanaka 128, Sammu Ashan 75 Vs. Badureliya SC Damith Perera 113, Dunith Jayatunga 63
SSC ran up 583 having resumed the first innings on 462 for 4 against Badureliya SC with skipper Dasun Shanaka making 128 (167b, 14×4, 2×6) adding 24 to his overnight score of 104 and Sammu Ashan, who was on 58 going on to make 75 ( 88b, 10×4) at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa.
Badureliya were 239 for 6 with No.4 batsman Damith Perera stroking 113 off 145 comprising 12 boundaries and a six. Perera succeeded in pulling his side out of the rut of 2 for 9 sharing in a 188-run third wicket partnership with opening batsman Dunith Jayatunga who scored 63 off 128 with 4 boundaries.
