SLC MAJOR LEAGUE TIER ‘A’ PLATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Moors SC had it easy against Lankan CC winning by an innings and 103 runs on the third and final day of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major League Tier ‘A’ Plate Championship  third week match at the NCC Grounds on Monday. Lankan CC made 320 in reply to Moors 599 for 9 declared, and following on were bundled out for 176. Praveen Jayawickrama was the hero on the final day claiming 5 for 83 and 2 for 69.

It marked Moors second win from 5 matches in the championship as the Braybrooke Place team headed the points table with 67.89 points with an unscathed record having drawn the rest.

Damith Perera strikes twin tons as Badureliya following on force a draw Vs. SSC

Badureliya SC bounced back to force a draw after being made to follow on ending the day on 258 for 4 after being dismissed for 280 in reply to SSC’s mammoth 583 at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa. The game turned out to be significant personal milestone for Badureliya’s one drop batsman Damith Perera who completed the unique twin century feat in hauling his side out of what had looked like certain defeat. Perera stroked a fighting unbeaten 112 off 174 balls filled with 8 boundaries and a six in the wake of his first innings 113. Full marks to opening batsman Tillakaratne Sampath who set the tone with an 81-ball 72 hitting 7 fours and a six. They  added 95 for the second wicket having come together in the gloom of 1 for 0.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Union C&AC versus Negombo CC encounter ended in a draw at the Colts Grounds.

Tamil Union who trailed Negombo CC by 187 on the first innings, made 389 for 9 declared off 96 overs with Dhananjaya de Silva slamming a 140-ball 167 spiced with 17 boundaries and 8 sixes and opening batsman Yohan Mendis stroking 116 off 211 inclusive of 17 boundaries and a six. They were associated in a 144-run alliance for the fourth wicket.
