CURTAIN COMES DOWN ON SLC MAJOR LEAGUE TIER ‘A’ PLATE CHAMPIONSHIP

NCC beat Colts CC by an innings and 79 runs at the CCC Grounds on Thursday while the rest of the three matches ended in draws bringing the curtain down on Sri Lanka Cricket’s Super Eight Major League Tier ‘A’ Tournament.

NCC, resuming from the overnight 119 for 6,  flopped to 157 all out for 6 as the mopping up operation was completed by Chaturanga de Silva who took 4 for 81 to round of his first innings 5 for 56 for a match bag of 137. Ashian Daniel accounted for the other wicket for figures of 3 for 47.  The fight was good as over for the Colts when star batsman Angelo Mathews did not bat from the injury he suffered the previous day and the load proved too much for skipper Sadeera Samarawickrema who made 72 adding just 21 to his overnight score of 51.

CCC bounce back 494/8 decl. Ashan Priyanjan 170, Kusal Mendis 157 Vs. Chilaw Marians

 Meanwhile, Super Eight champions CCC, put on the back foot for a major part of the game having trailed Chilaw Marians CC by 103, came back strongly on the final day with skipper Kusal Mendis reproducing the belligerent century making form with the bat of last week with a masterly 157 off 183 balls while Ashan Priyanjan thumped 170 in a total of 494 for 8 declared to force a draw at the SSC. Mendis struck 14 boundaries and 4 sixes in his 183-ball knock while Priyanjan’s run a ball cameo was spiced with as much as 24 hits to the ropes and 3 sixes.

Saracens SC hang on to force draw Vs. SL Army SC

Saracens SC hung on to draw their match against the Sri Lanka Army SC totaling 259 and 76 for 5 following on at the FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake. Their anchor man in the first innings was Gamindu Kanishka Amarasinghe who made 95 off 137 inclusive of 10 boundaries and 3 sixes and followed it up with 31 while Seekuge Prasanna took 5 for 72 and 3 for 29 while Dushan Vimukthi took  3 for 55 for the Army.

BRC 406 Shanuka Dulaj 173 in reply to Ragama CC’s 491

BRC extended their overnight 142 for 2 to 406 in reply to Ragama CC 491 in the tame draw at the P. Saravanamuththu Stadium with Shanuka Dulaj Withanawasam continuing his cracking form throughout the tournament with a superb 143 off 173 hamering 12 fours and 4 sixes while skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa made 50 off 53 with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Equal to the task was Hashen Ramanayake with 56 off 87 inclusive of 6 boundaries and 2 sixes.
