Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform the following pertaining to articles published today (2nd May 2023) in ‘Ada’ and ‘Dinamina’, respectively under the titles of “විශේෂ විගණනය අතරමැද ශ්රී ලංකා ක්රිකට් අභ්යන්තර විගණක ප්රධානී ඉල්ලා අස්වෙයි”
Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to state that the said two articles, written, respectively, by Journalist Pathum Sri Wijerathne (ADA) and Mr. Fauz Mohamed (Dinamina), have been written with malicious intent and scant disregard to the employment rights an employee can exercise in terms of “resigning from an employment.”
We wish to state that the resignation of Mrs. U.K.D.P.K. Wijesinghe, who was the “Head of Internal Audit” at Sri Lanka Cricket, was purely a professional decision taken by her and does not involve any unwarranted circumstances, as claimed in the said articles.
We wish to state that she officially informed SLC of her decision on April 1, 2023, exactly “one month” prior to her resignation, which is a contractual obligation every SLC employee has to fulfill in order to announce his or her resignation.
Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to mention that an employee has an absolute and unfettered right to resign, and this right can be exercised at any point in the course of his or her employment.
Hence, what is being written in the said articles about her resignation has been done without a clear knowledge of “employment rights” and is “misleading” the public.
Hence, we request the editors of the respective newspapers to provide due coverage to this “Right of Reply” of Sri Lanka Cricket.
