William Rayner has been elected SACA President following the Association’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday night.

Mr Rayner follows in the footsteps of long-serving President Andrew Sinclair, who indicated his intention to step down from the SACA Board earlier this year.

Mr Rayner brings a diverse corporate and cricketing background to the role, and becomes just the 12th President in SACA’s 151-year history.

“I am thrilled to be given this opportunity and thank the SACA Board and members for their support,” Mr Rayner said.

“The role of SACA in developing and promoting the game of cricket has never been more important. I look forward to working with the Board, our CEO Charlie Hodgson, and the entire SACA team as we build on the strength and history of the Association.”

Mr Rayner also paid tribute to Andrew Sinclair for his dedicated service to South Australian cricket, which includes more than 13-years on the SACA Board and nine as President.

“On behalf of the Board and SACA members I would like to thank Andrew for his significant contribution to the game, and to the Association in general. He has led the organisation through a great period of change with many highs, and some incredibly difficult lows. But, he has done it with great grace, and with the Spirit of Cricket always firmly in the front of his mind.”

Mr Rayner – a former A-grade premiership player with Kensington District Cricket Club – has been a SACA member since 1988. He has served on the SACA Board since 2019, and was elected Vice President in December 2021.

He has had an extensive executive and non-executive career in the areas of finance and banking, agribusiness, corporate affairs and events management. He holds an MBA from the University of Adelaide, is a Churchill Fellow, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Mr Rayner is also a non-executive director of the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority.

James Orchard has filled the Vice President role vacated by Mr Rayner. Mr Orchard – a life member of Sturt District Cricket Club – has been on the SACA Board since 2019 and is Managing Director of accounting firm Accru Harris Orchard.

Craig Bradbrook also joins the SACA Board as the Premier Cricket Club Representative, replacing Bob Snewin, who has served that role since 2014.

In other results declared at the AGM, District Council of Tumby Bay CEO Rebecca Hayes has been elected for a second term on the Board, while former Redbacks cricketer Daniel Harris has been elected to the Board for a maiden term.
