Sri Lanka Cricket donates Cricket Equipment for another 252 Schools

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. Originally registered as the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka on June 30, 1975, it was renamed Sri Lanka Cricket in 2003.

Sri Lanka Cricket today (11th February) distributed cricket equipment to 252 schools, covering 19 districts in the country, under its newly launched program under the National Pathway to promote School Cricket.

Accordingly, Schools playing in the ongoing U15 tournament conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket were donated with cricket equipment.

Schools in the districts of Galle, Jaffna, Matara, Hambantota, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Moneragala, Kurunegala, Matale, Kandy, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Kilinochchi were granted cricket playing equipment. 

Among the equipment given consist of 3 bats, 2 helmets, 03 pairs of batting pads and gloves, wicket-keeping pads and gloves, thigh pads and a Team Cricket Bag for each school.

Apart from the donations made today, 145 schools in the Western Province were also given the donation during two programs held on the 28th January and 2nd February at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

This program conducted under the National Pathway of Sri Lanka Cricket also donated cricket equipment to 50 girls’ schools playing in the U19 School Cricket Competition.

The significance of today’s event is that 239 schools were given the donation at the same time during 18 programs conducted in the respective districts, starting at 10.00 am. The donation of the equipment to schools in the Jaffna district will take place this evening.

With the cricket equipment to schools playing in the upcoming U13 tournament expected to be given before the commencement of the tournament, a total of 650 schools will receive the donation during the year 2022 under this program.

Apart from the donation of cricketing equipment, Sri Lanka Cricket has also developed cricketing infrastructure across schools in the country. Among the work done includes the construction of 200 concrete (practice) wickets, 50 side turf practice wickets, 25 center turf wickets, distribution of 400 mattings, 300 turf rollers, etc.
