Sri Lanka Cricket launches program to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. Originally registered as the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka on June 30, 1975, it was renamed Sri Lanka Cricket in 2003.

Sri Lanka Cricket today launched a program under its National Pathway to donate cricket equipment to 650 schools across the country, in a bid to enhance school cricket.

Under this program, schools playing in the U13 and U15 Cricket tournaments conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket will receive the donation of cricketing equipment.

Apart from it, 50 Schools playing in the U19 Women’s Cricket Tournament conducted by the Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket also will be given cricket equipment.

The equipment donated to each school consists of 3 bats, 2 helmets, 03 pairs of batting pads and gloves, a wicket-keeping pad and a glove, and a Team Cricket Bag for each school.

The distribution of cricket equipment commenced this morning in Colombo, under the patronage of Honorable Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports – Mr. Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket – Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne, Vice President, Sri Lanka Cricket – Mr. Thilak Waththuhewa, President, Schools Cricket Association, Mr. Sujeewa Godaliyedda, and Mr. Samantha Dodanwela, Executive Committee Members of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Mr. Oshara Panditharathna, Deputy President of the Schools Cricket Association, was also present during the event.

Speaking during the occasion, Minister of Youth and Sports Honorable Namal Rajapaksa, commended Sri Lanka Cricket led by Mr. Shammi Silva for the work done in order to promote the game, both at School and National level.

Commencing the national program, 66 Schools in the Colombo District were given cricketing equipment during the inaugural event held this morning at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Sri Lanka Cricket will start distributing cricket equipment to rest of the schools in the country, with immediate effect.

Apart from the donation of cricketing equipment, Sri Lanka Cricket will also take steps to enhance its program towards developing cricketing infrastructure among the schools.
