A standalone Sydney Smash at the SCG headlines the Weber WBBL|09 fixture, with the league today revealing the complete schedule for the summer ahead.

The Sydney Smash – scheduled for Sunday, November 26 – is set to round out a blockbuster weekend of cricket, following matches at the Adelaide Oval and MCG in the days prior, marking the first time standalone regular season fixtures have been slated for the SCG and MCG.

As announced yesterday, the Sydney Sixers are set to kick off the Weber WBBL season once again this summer, hosting the Melbourne Stars at the iconic home of women’s cricket in Australia – North Sydney Oval – on Thursday, October 19.

Following the season kick-off, the Sixers will host crosstown rivals, Sydney Thunder, in the first Smash of the summer on Sunday, November 22, bringing together some of the league’s biggest entertainers and brightest stars at North Sydney Oval.

Sydney Sixers Weber WBBL|09 fixture highlights:

  • Standalone Sydney Smash at the SCG scheduled for November 26.
  • Season opener on October 19 against the Melbourne Stars broadcast in prime time by Seven and Foxtel.
  • Weber WBBL|08 Final rematch against the Adelaide Strikers on November 3 and 18.
  • Sydney Smash at home of women’s cricket in Australia – North Sydney Oval – on October 22.
  • Six matches on free-to-air, including season opener against the Melbourne Stars on October 19 and Sydney Smash on November 26.

A battle of the big hitters is set to follow when Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne bring the Heat to North Sydney Oval on Tuesday, October 24 – the final of three matches at home, before the Sixers head to Melbourne to face the Renegades at CitiPower Centre on Saturday, October 28.

Making the road trip to Perth, the Sixers will face the Scorchers at the WACA on Tuesday, October 31, before the highly anticipated WBBL|08 Final rematch against the Adelaide Strikers at the same venue on Friday, November 3. A clash with the Renegades at the WACA on Sunday, November 5, will round out the WA stay.

The Sixers will return home to North Sydney Oval to host the Ellyse Villani led Hurricanes in a must-watch Friday night fixture on November 10, before making the trip to Hobart to play the same side at Blundstone Arena on Monday, November 14.

Two of the most anticipated matches of the summer are scheduled to follow, when the Sixers host longtime rivals, the Scorchers, and last summer’s champions, the Strikers, in two monster clashes at North Sydney Oval on Thursday, November 16, and Saturday, November 18.

The Sixers will complete their regular season with a flight to Queensland to face the Heat at Allan Border Field on November 21, prior to the most momentous match of the season – and the headline of the summer – the Sydney Smash at the SCG on Sunday, November 26.

Alistair Dobson, General Manager, Big Bash Leagues said:

“Weber WBBL|09 is building as our biggest tournament yet, from the first women’s overseas player draft to historic matches at three of Australia’s most iconic stadiums and other venues across the country that are synonymous with the WBBL.

“The WBBL has long been the world’s leading cricket league for women and the natural progression of the League is to have the best players in the world playing in the best cricket venues in the world.

“Clubs, players, and fans will benefit from more home games in each market and each team featuring at home in the first nine days of the tournament.

“Players will be paid more than ever in WBBL|09 with the salary cap per team doubling and the top players set to earn over $100,000.

“We thank our broadcast partners for their assistance in this process and ongoing commitment to growing the women’s game. It’s no coincidence the WBBL is the fourth most-watched sports league and most-watched women’s league in the country.”

The Weber WBBL|09 Final is scheduled for Saturday, December 2. Tickets for the Weber WBBL|09 season will be available from Thursday, August 24.
