Sydney Sixers star and Australian cricket legend Nicole Bolton has announced the Weber WBBL|08 Final will be her last match, calling time on an illustrious career.
A name synonymous with Australian cricket, Bolton has been a fixture of the sport for over 15 years at both domestic and international level.
Bolton made her mark almost immediately on the international scene, scoring a century in her ODI debut at the MCG – the first Australian woman to achieve the feat. That score would become the first of four international centuries for the all-rounder.
With 55 international appearances and over 2000 runs under her belt, the classy left-hander has been praised for her contributions both on-field with bat and ball and off-field, as a positive influence through her work ethic, determination and positive attitude.
The five-time Zoe Goss medalist and three-time WNCL Player of the Year, Bolton remains Western Australia’s all-time leading run-scorer and arguably the state’s greatest ever product.
A foundation player of the WBBL, Bolton began her career with the Perth Scorchers, before swapped orange for magenta ahead of last season.
The all-rounder quickly cemented herself as reliable middle-order bat and crafty finger-spinner, as well as a much-loved teammate, and adored fan favourite.
Bolton’s 1844 WBBL career-runs sit alongside 53 wickets and 32 catches.
Notching her 100th WBBL match earlier this summer, Bolton joined a renowned group, becoming just the 11th player to hit the milestone.
Cricket NSW Head of Female Elite Cricket, Leah Poulton praised Bolton for her contributions to the game.
“On-field ‘Bolts’ will be remembered as one of the all-time great competitors. Tough situations brought out the best in her, while she was at the crease the game was never done.
“She will be remembered as a wonderful team person, always ready for a laugh and someone who set the standard at training with her incredible work ethic.”
The Sixers will be looking to secure a fairytale finish for Bolton on Saturday afternoon, when they face the Adelaide Strikers in the Weber WBBL|08 Final at North Sydney Oval.
