In what is believed to be a world first for cricket, the Sydney Sixers are proud to announce the establishment of our LGBT+ Supporter Group committee.

The newly formed committee will help inform the club on community specific LGBT+ issues and work closely with Sixers management on wider inclusion in cricket.

This project will focus on bringing together a diverse group of players, fans, umpires, coaches and cricket club committees. The committee is part of the Sixers commitment to the LGBT+ community and 3-year inclusion strategy to be released later this year.

Sydney Sixers General Manager, Jodie Hawkins said:

“We are really excited to work with a diverse group of individuals to make a contribution to cricket’s inclusion of the LGBT+ community”.

“Sport has a critical role to play in society and is one of the key drivers of change to ensure that everyone is comfortable and welcomed to not only watch the game but play the game.”

Co-Chair Erica James, a proud member of the LGBT+ community, and Women’s First Grade player herself echoed those sentiments.

“I want to live in a world where everyone feels like they can be a part of cricket, no matter who they are, what their background is, what their sexuality is, regardless of gender or race, or expression,” said Ms James.

“Everyone should be able to enjoy themselves, and feel safe whilst enjoying their connection to the game”.

Co-Chair Chris Cunningham, a proud ally for the LGBT+ community said: “I am personally driven to develop new opportunities so everyone is fortunate enough to enjoy the same opportunities, both welcoming and supportive environment that I have been presented with throughout my sporting journey”.

Over the coming months, the supporter group will announce a calendar of events and outings for members and allies of the LGBT+ community. Stay tuned for more information.
