The Sydney Sixers have rounded out their squad list for the Weber WBBL|09 season with the addition of homegrown talent, and one of Australia’s brightest young stars, Kate Pelle.
Born and bred in Penrith, Pelle is a product of the Cricket NSW pathway, earning her first opportunity in the WBBL this summer at just 17 years of age.
A hard-hitting top-order bat and talented wicketkeeper, the right-hander was a member of the title-winning NSW Metro side at Under-19 National Championships last year.
A number of impressive performances saw the young gun earn a spot in Australia’s Under-19 World Cup squad, with Pelle joining soon-to-be Sixers teammate Jade Allen in South Africa in January.
With 134 runs from six appearances in her first World Cup campaign, Pelle ended the tournament as Australia’s second highest run-scorer, behind only NSW Breakers batter Claire Moore.
Head of Sydney Sixers, Rachael Haynes said of the young gun:
“Excitingly, Kate completes our squad list for this summer. She is a homegrown talent and has risen up through the ranks of the NSW cricket pathway.
“Kate earned an opportunity to be a part of the Under-19 World Cup squad earlier in the year and we’re confident she has taken a lot from that experience.
“The opportunity to be mentored by one of the world’s best coaches in Charlotte Edwards and the current Australian wicketkeeper in Alyssa Healy is near priceless. We have no doubt that Kate will relish the chance to be amongst and learn from some of the world’s best players.”
The Weber WBBL|09 season officially kicks off next Thursday, October 19 with the Sixers facing rivals, the Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval. Tickets are on sale NOW.
