The Sydney Sixers will begin their BBL|11 campaign this weekend, aiming to do something no team has done in the competition’s history: A threepeat.

After lifting the trophy in the last two Big Bash tournaments, Moises Henriques is confident the Sixers have put together a squad capable of going all the way again, but he isn’t getting ahead of himself.

“We’re not going to win the whole tournament in the first game this weekend,” said Henriques.

“We’ve earned nothing so far, I believe we have the team to do it.

“The piece of paper with all the names on the list doesn’t win you anything so we are going to have to go out and be the best we can be.”

The Sixers start their campaign against the Melbourne Stars, another strong team on paper.

Henriques expects the big names on both teams to put on a good show in the season opener at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

“I think the Stars have got one of the strongest squads around, although I reckon we challenge that now,” said Henriques.

“They have got some really dangerous players, and a lot of good players away from those superstars that have been playing for Australia and have just come back from a successful World Cup campaign.”

Henriques is hoping to see Sixers fans pack out the SCG, after playing in front of reduced crowds during last year’s Big Bash.

The skipper has fond memories of last season’s final, where he lifted the trophy in front of more than 25,000 fans.

“The Final last year in front of that crowd, after the whole season of playing in front of smaller crowds, was something really special,” said Henriques.

“A lot of the guys will never forget how loud and supportive that fanbase was.

“I’m sure the guys will be looking forward to more moments like that whether it is in round games, or if we are good enough to make finals this year, to have something similar to what we experienced last year would be pretty cool.”
