Sydney Sixers raise significant funds for YouCan during WBBL

The Sydney Sixers are an Australian professional Twenty20 cricket team competing in the Big Bash League (BBL). Based at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Sixers, along with the Sydney Thunder, succeeded the New South Wales Blues from the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

The Sydney Sixers’ annual ‘Sixers Can, You Can’ fundraising campaign has already raised in excess of $24,000 for the Sony Foundation Australia’s You Can Stay program.

Throughout the recently completed WBBL, the Sixers worked with players, fans and members to raise money for the program, which provides accommodation for regional youth cancer patients who must travel to the city for life-saving treatment.

Sony Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Sophie Ryan, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support of the Sydney Sixers, and their community.

“We are delighted to be celebrating our tenth ‘Sixers Can, You Can’ campaign with the Sydney Sixers. This annual campaign is a highlight for our youth cancer community. It illustrates that the passion of a sporting community to rally behind a cause is hugely powerful, enabling a partnership that has a widespread positive impact on our young cancer patients and their families.

The campaign fundraising result to date, will provide over 240 nights of emergency accommodation to regional and rural youth cancer patients, who are required to travel to metropolitan regions for life-saving treatment.” Ms Ryan said.

“Sony Foundation wish the Sydney Sixers BBL Squad the best of luck this season, and look forward to cheering them on at the You Can Charity Match on January 16, 2021”. Ms Ryan added.
