The Sydney Sixers will have an enormous presence in the Harbour City throughout the upcoming KFC Big Bash League season, hosting adrenaline-charged home matches at two iconic cricket grounds.

The full BBL|12 draw will be announced tomorrow, but after opening their BBL account against the Strikers at Adelaide Oval on December 14, the Greg Shipperd-coached Sixers will play five home matches at the tradition-steeped Sydney Cricket Ground.

However, for the first time in the Club’s history, the Sixers’ male team will play a BBL fixture at historic North Sydney Oval – their WBBL team’s spiritual home ground – when they play against Brisbane Heat on January 4, the first day of the Pink Test at the SCG.

Alyssa Healy, one of the Sixers most popular WBBL players, said her male counterparts would enjoy the experience of playing a Big Bash match there, describing North Sydney Oval as tailor-made for the trademark towering sixes and powerful shots that have made T20 cricket’s most exciting format.

“It’s just a really unique place to play cricket,” said Healy. “It’s good fun as a Sixers batter being able to take on the boundary, and traditionally there has been some high scoring games there.

“It’s a great ground to play at, but I think – just as importantly – it’s a great ground to watch cricket. The fans feel really close to the game which is really important.”

The Sixers will once again take a match to its incredible supporter base at Coffs Harbour on the state’s mid north coast.

The Sixers will of course play arch rivals Sydney Thunder in the BBL’s most compelling matches – the Sydney Smash.

Chris Botherway, Acting Head of Sixers, said his Club’s fans had good reason to be excited by the season.

“This season’s Big Bash League will give our Members and fans plenty of opportunities to cheer on their heroes in person,” he said.

“The SCG has provided the backdrop for many memorable moments in our Club’s history, while visiting the Coffs Coast allows us to give more people a taste of the fun, fast, family entertainment of a BBL game.

“This year’s schedule allows our players the opportunity to experience the magic of North Sydney Oval, a venue held in such high regard by our WBBL stars.  Apart from being one of the city’s most picturesque cricket grounds it is renowned for producing exciting cricket.”

The KFC BBL|12 Finals series will take place following the conclusion of the regular season.

The full BBL fixture will be announced tomorrow, with tickets for this summer’s Sixers WBBL and BBL matches on-sale to the public at 2pm, August 18 (AEST).

Sixers BBL Memberships will be available soon. Be the first in line by registering your interest here.

Seven will televise 45 KFC BBL matches – including all Finals – of this summer’s 61 games. Each game will once again be available on Foxtel and Kayo, while additional coverage will be provided by SEN.
