Up-and-coming young gun Todd Murphy has extended his stay with the Sydney Sixers, signing on ahead of KFC BBL|12.

Murphy will pull on the magenta for a second summer after he was called into the squad last season to replace injured veteran Stephen O’Keefe.

The 21-year-old made an impact during his stint in Sydney, impressing Sixers Head Coach Greg Shipperd.

“We’re thrilled to have one of Australia’s rising spin stars commit to our team.” Shipperd said.

“Todd turned heads last season and we’re excited to have him join our experienced duo (Steve O’Keefe & Nathan Lyon) as well as our new international (Izharulhaq Naveed), completing our spin quartet.”

The Victorian native has collected 18 first-class wickets from four Sheffield Shield appearances, including two three-wicket hauls against Western Australia earlier this month.

Named in the Australia A squad earlier this year, the off-spinner continues to go from strength to strength.

Head Coach, Shipperd commended Murphy’s approach, praising the versatility the young spinner provides.

“Todd has some exquisite skills and a genuine team first attitude that will complement our group.

“He can bowl through the phases, and this versatility is one of the keys to our flexibility as a group. He provides the same in the field and his batting is emerging.

“I can’t wait to re-engage with him and know that our supporters will love seeing him back.”

The Sixers will formally kick off their KFC BBL|12 campaign against the Adelaide Strikers on December 14 at Adelaide Oval.
