The Sydney Sixers have announced a 13-player squad for their tenth match of BBL|09 – the game against the Hobart Hurricanes, to be played at the SCG, tomorrow night.
The fixture is the Sixers’ annual Pride Party.
There is one change to the group that was defeated by the ladder-leading Melbourne Stars last Sunday, with fast bowler Henry Thornton coming into the squad.
Thornton returns to the Sixers’ playing list as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood who is on international duty.
This is the second year in a row the Sixers have hosted a Pride Party themed game and comes a few months after the Club enjoyed their inaugural WBBL Pride Party.
The game highlights the club’s commitment to the inclusion of all LGBTI+ people from community to elite level sport.
The SCG will be filled with rainbow flags and messaging that blends the Sixers iconic Magenta with rainbow colours. The fielding circle will also be painted in Rainbow colours.
In recent years the Sixers have developed a strategy that reaffirms its social responsibility to encourage others to be themselves, supporting clubs and associations to welcome and include those from diverse backgrounds.
The club has also begun working with key LGBTI+ organisations Proud2Play and Rainbow Families, many of whom will attend the game on Thursday.
Working closely with Proud2Play, the Sixers have rolled out a number of initiatives for the 2019-20 season including a Rainbow Families Come and Try Event, WBBL and BBL Pride Party themed games and Club & Association Education that offers all cricket clubs in NSW the opportunity to participate in an education session which will provide tips and tools to engage participation of LGBTI+ people in clubs.
The club is also working to develop a 3-year strategic plan in conjunction with stakeholders to inform us on current community challenges to remain relevant in the community.
