The Sydney Sixers are an Australian professional Twenty20 cricket team competing in the Big Bash League (BBL). Based at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Sixers, along with the Sydney Thunder, succeeded the New South Wales Blues from the now-defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

The key highlights of our second BBL championship season:

  • On Saturday night, 8 of the 11 on-field won their first BBL title with the Sixers. Captain Moises Henriques, Steven Smith and Stephen O’Keefe were the three players who experienced their second title success after BBL|01.
  • Smith was captain for our first title.
  • Defeated the table-topping Melbourne Stars three times during the season, including the two Finals.
  • Won 9 of 14 matches, with one abandoned, to qualify second for the Finals.
  • Sixers leading run-scorer – Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe with 487 runs from 16 matches, including five half-centuries, the most important of which came in the Final (52 from 29).
  • Sixers leading wicket-taker – Tom Curran with 22 wickets averaging 19.4, despite not playing the Finals due to International commitments with England. Second on the list was left-arm quick Ben Dwarshuis with 16 wickets.
  • Josh Philippe passed Brad Haddin as the Sixers all-time leading wicketkeeper, at Adelaide Oval against the Strikers, and has claimed 23 dismissals in his first two seasons, including 16 catches.

  • Most catches for the season claimed by captain Moises Henriques with 8 in 14 matches.
  • Biggest win by runs – 48 runs against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.
  • Biggest win by wickets – 8 wickets with 5 overs remaining against the Perth Scorchers, in the first match of the season, at the SCG.
  • Highest total – 3/180 against the Adelaide Strikers at C.ex Coffs International Stadium.
  • Highest score of the season – Josh Philippe’s 83 not out from 52 balls against the Strikers at C.ex Coffs International Stadium. He hit 5 fours and 4 sixes.
  • Best figures – Tom Curran took 4-22 from 3.4 overs against the Strikers at Adelaide Oval. His personal best in the BBL.
  • Best economy rate – 6.22 for Australian quick Josh Hazlewood.

Daniel Hughes captained the Sixers for the first time, registering two victories, filling the role when Moises Henriques became a Dad for the first time.
