Three remaining Thunder games scheduled to be played in Sydney moved to Adelaide Oval
The KFC Big Bash League has confirmed that the three remaining Sydney Thunder games scheduled to be played in Sydney will be moved interstate as a result of state border closures.
The three Thunder games impacted are:
1. 22 January: Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder at the SCG, now to be played at Adelaide Oval
2. 24 January: Sydney Thunder vs Adelaide Strikers at Sydney Showground Stadium, now to be played at Adelaide Oval
3. 25 January: Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Thunder at Sydney Showground Stadium, now to be played at Adelaide Oval
Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson said the squads’ thoughts were with their loyal Members and supporters in Sydney.
“We’re shattered that we won’t be able to play at Sydney Showground Stadium this season,” Ferguson said.
“Our Members and supporters are the lifeblood of the club and we absolutely love every bit of support that you’ve been throwing our way – it’s been a huge part of our success so far this season.
“Hopefully we can keep the momentum going and give everyone plenty to cheer for from home.”
Cricket Australia’s Head of Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson, said the decision was made in line with Cricket Australia’s ongoing commitment to giving all formats and competitions the best chance of completing a full season.
“We understand our many passionate members and fans of both the Sixers and Thunder, will be disappointed by today’s news that KFC BBL|10 matches won’t be played in Sydney this year,” Dobson said.
“We’d like to say a huge thank you to those fans for their ongoing support and look forward to being back better than ever in KFC BBL|11.”
Tickets for Sydney matches had not yet been available to the public.
These relocations follow earlier fixture changes that included two Thunder games being moved from Sydney Showground Stadium to Manuka Oval.
