Tanveer Sangha and Daniel Sams named in T20 squad for upcoming tour of New Zealand
Sydney Thunder duo Daniel Sams and Tanveer Sangha have been named in Australia’s squad for the upcoming Qantas T20I Tour of New Zealand.
Young gun Sangha has been recognised by national selectors for the first time off the back of his brilliant KFC Big Bash League campaign.
The 19-year-old leg-spinner finished the BBL|10 regular season as the competition’s joint third-leading wicket-taker with 21 scalps at 16.66 and an impressive economy of 8.04 runs per over.
It’s a rapid rise to Australian selection for Sangha, who was representing his country at the Under-19 World Cup just 12 months ago.
“We have been most impressed by Tanveer Sangha, who has been brilliant throughout the pathways and with the Sydney Thunder this season,” said selector Trevor Hohns.
Sangha is joined in the squad by powerful all-rounder Sams who made his limited-overs debut for Australia at the SCG in December.
After finishing BBL|09 as the competition’s leading wicket-taker, Sams has proven himself as a genuine all-rounder in BBL|10.
Sams has hit 199 runs at 49.75 and a remarkable strike rate of 191.35 – the highest of any player in the competition this season.
Sydney Thunder is set to play in Sunday’s Knockout Final at Manuka Oval on Sunday night. Thunder will take on the winner of the Elimination Final between the Brisbane Heat and the Adelaide Strikers.
Tickets for the Knockout Final go on sale via Ticketek to the general public at 3:00pm on Wednesday 27 January.
