A few very significant moments in the young life of Kate Peterson happened across the last week

The day is Friday 30 October. Kate Peterson finishes her final HSC exam and in a matter of hours is travelling to Sydney Olympic Park to continue her compulsory quarantine in the rebel WBBL Village before she could start training with the squad.

Last Wednesday, having just been with the squad for two days, the 17-year-old swing bowler made her Sydney Thunder debut against the Perth Scorchers at Blacktown International Sportspark No. 1.

Quite a few days.

We asked Kate about her HSC and the moment she received her debut cap:

Hardest subject?

Probably Maths.

Crammer or Planner?

I’d like to think of myself as a planner. I try my best to plan well but definitely crammed a bit the night before for a few of the subjects during the HSC exams.

Best subject?

PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education) and Legal Studies.

Balancing cricket and study …?

It wasn’t too bad. Towards the HSC, it got a little more stressful because obviously we had training for the Thunder, and I was training with the Breakers for a bit during their preseason.

I just worked with the coaches to sort out times where I could maybe leave early or come late just to get an extra few hours of study in.

Who presented you with your debut cap …?

Sammy-Jo Johnson.

Such a big honour to be presented with my cap by Sammy-Jo because she’d been such a big role model for me throughout the preseason and really helped me and guided me in developing my game as a younger player. It was really special.

When did you enter the Village?

I entered the afternoon of my last exam. Straight in, went home, picked up the bags and came straight to the Village and started my three days quarantine.

What do you enjoy most about the Village?

I just love the fact that we get to be with our friends all the time and have cricket around us wherever we go.

Being in the same hotel as the likes of Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Megan Schutt, it’s awesome to have that around us.
