Thunder WBBL captain recognised at the Australian Cricket Awards

Sydney Thunder’s WBBL|06 title-winning captain Rachael Haynes was announced as the Women’s One-Day International Player of the Year on Saturday night.

The Australian vice-captain scored 222 runs at an average of 74 in the only three Women’s ODI fixtures held last season involving Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All three fixtures came against New Zealand in Brisbane, with Haynes recording a highest score of 96.

For all international awards, players votes are combined with votes given by a combination of a media representative and the umpires.

Haynes received 11 votes, finishing one vote clear of Australian captain Meg Lanning.

The Thunder skipper scored 337 runs at an average above 37 during the club’s WBBL|06 title success during October and November.

Thunder young gun Hannah Darlington was also recognised at the Australian Cricket Awards. The talented all-rounder was named the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year.
