HomeWorld to remain Major Partner for next two seasons

HomeWorld, who are responsible for Australia’s largest new home display villages, has padded up to partner Sydney Thunder on and off the pitch for another two-years by extending its valued partnership with the club.

News of the company’s continued commitment to Thunder coincided with the opening of its spectacular new display village in Box Hill, a suburb in Sydney’s north-west. HomeWorld Box Hill showcases over 100 brand new display homes, including duplex and granny flats from 35 of the nation’s leading building companies.

HomeWorld’s distinctive logo first appeared on Sydney Thunder’s jersey in 2015-16, the memorable summer when the men in green – then captained by Mike Hussey – seized the BBL|05 crown to become the league’s championship winning team.

From this year, the HomeWorld logo will not only proudly adorn the chest of Thunder’s men’s and women’s jerseys, but it’ll also appear on their playing trousers.

“HomeWorld is proud of their partnership with Sydney Thunder, which has now been in place for five years,” said Trudi Busch, Director of Marketing, Sponsorship & Community, HomeWorld Group of companies

“We have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the evolving Big Bash League and working together with the Thunder on numerous community initiatives,” said Ms Busch.

“A connection to home, family, and community is at the core of everything we do, which is why our commitment to developing a sport such as cricket, and partnering with a team like Thunder is important.”

Sydney Thunder’s Acting General Manager, Chris Botherway, described the continuation of the partnership as an example of how two organisations with shared values can grow together.

“The alliance we’ve forged with HomeWorld has been a positive and fulfilling one,” said Mr Botherway.

“HomeWorld appreciate Sydney Thunder’s definition of ‘success’ extends beyond the scoreboard; we’re striving to make a difference through inclusive, charitable endeavours and community events.

“And HomeWorld is walking, shoulder-to-shoulder, with us on that journey.”

The extended partnership is testimony to HomeWorld’s commitment to Thunder’s mission to make a difference to its community via a series of acclaimed initiatives.

HomeWorld have been a driving force behind the success of the Thunder Nation Cup; a unique tournament which embraces Australia’s multicultural communities by celebrating the universal passions of cricket, community, and cuisine.

This support has allowed the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup’s reach to extend from western Sydney to Canberra and the Riverina. This growth is allowing newcomers to Australia to forge friendships that have made assimilation into a new homeland easier – and, it’s being achieved through a sport with a proud history of uniting Aussies.

“Through initiatives such as the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup, we’re able to help bring communities together and to celebrate culture through cricket,” said Ms Busch. “It allows the values that bind us to Sydney Thunder to go beyond the cricket field and into everyday life.”

The partnership also means cricket clubs across Thunder Nation are again eligible to apply for the keenly sought after HomeWorld Helper Grants.

The grants acknowledge the difficult time communities have endured, including last summer’s drought and destructive bushfires, to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

To help ease the burden HomeWorld, and Sydney Thunder, are providing cricket teams within Thunder Nation with the opportunity to apply for a one-off donation of up to $2,000.

Last season, five cricket clubs benefited from the HomeWorld Helper’s Grants, including Trundle’s from Far West NSW. Their grant purchased new playing shirts for their juniors.

“When Trundle Cricket Club were looking to update their player uniforms, the HomeWorld Helpers Grant provided a fantastic avenue to ease the financial burden of doing so,” said Matt Ellis, Far West Cricket Manager. “And the kids love their shirts.”

Ms Busch said HomeWorld was thrilled to again provide support to grassroots cricket.

“It’s been great to see the HomeWorld Helper Grants supporting Cricket Clubs across NSW when they have needed it the most,” she said.

“We recognise that many clubs will be doing it tough in the season ahead, and we want to do what we can to ensure that everyone has the chance to play and enjoy this great sport.”

Applications are open from Sunday 19th October and will close Friday 5th December 2020 at 5:00pm AEDT. To apply please click here.
