Team Sri Lanka confirmed for HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup

Angasan Muthulingam described the sense of achievement he felt to be selected in the Sri Lankan community’s HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup squad has added another dimension to his long-held belief that moving to Australia was one of the best decisions he’s ever made.

Muthulingam, a fiery pace bowler who was named in the 11-man squad after performing well at last Wednesday’s trials at Howell Oval in Penrith, spoke passionately of his life in Australia and how it helped foster his love for cricket.

“Coming to Australia was one of the best things that has happened in my life,” he said. “The country has great facilities for all sports, and great people who love the game of cricket.

“I only started to play leather ball cricket in Australia for my school team and then I played for several Sri Lankan community-based clubs. I’m currently playing for ‘Wenty’ [Wentworthville] Leagues Club’s Cricket Club.

“Australia has given me various opportunities, and it’s also help me improve my cricket. The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is one such opportunity – and it’s great to be representing my nation in it. I’m really looking forward to the competition.”

Muthulingam added that being associated with Sydney Thunder via the tournament added to his sense of achievement, and desire to help the Sri Lankans to hold aloft the trophy for the first time.

“I’ve always wanted to represent my community on a big platform and getting selected to be part of this tournament is a great opportunity since Sydney Thunder is a very popular – and well known – [club] around the world,” he said.

“I will give my best for the team to win, but, at the same time play sportingly; to lift each other up; to  share my knowledge within the group, and respect the game and opposition – just as our great Sri Lankan cricketing legends do.”
