Lachlan Hearne joins as Replacement Player for Friday’s match in Melbourne

Lachlan Hearne described being signed as a Replacement Player for Sydney Thunder’s KFC Big Bash League campaign was a matter of his birthday and Christmas coming early.

Hearn, who’ll turn 21 on December 19, described the opportunity to learn from coach Trevor Bayliss, and the likes of Sam Billings, Alex Hales, Alex Ross, and Acting Captain Chris Green as “awesome”.

“Being around the boys is a brilliant experience,” he said. “I’ve been learning how to develop my T20 game, learning new shots, using my crease, and learning from the ‘Big Dogs’.

The left-handed top order batter, who replaces Ollie Davies in the squad for Friday’s match in Melbourne, made a half century during his Sheffield Shield debut against Queensland last summer, building on his reputation as an emerging talent after being selected in the Australian team that competed in the ICC under-19 World Cup in South Africa.

Hearne, who made his first-grade debut for Mosman in NSW Premier Cricket as a 16-year-old, nominated former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and ex-West Indies batter Brian Lara as his two favourite players.

CNSW Head of Elite Male Cricket, Michael Klinger, said Hearne’s performances for Mosman was crucial in his gaining a Replacement Player contract.

“Lachie is an up-and-coming young batter within CNSW,” said Klinger. “He’s shown some really good form in white ball cricket at Premier club level.

“I know Trevor Bayliss and the coaching staff are looking forward to seeing Lachie contribute to the squad.”
