Seventh edition of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup set to take place throughout February and March

Registrations are now open for this summer’s HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup.

Set to run throughout February and March, the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup exists to give individuals the opportunity to connect with their community and celebrate culture through cricket.

“When I came to Australia a few years back, I hardly knew anyone here, now I can proudly say that I got a big extended family and friends here, all the credit goes to cricket. Cricket always unites people,” said Ravi Adabala, who represented India last summer.

The seventh edition of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup will see teams represent six different communities – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The seventh edition will also feature the introduction of a Rest of the World team. This will give people of all other nations that make up the diverse Thunder Nation a chance to compete on Finals Day against an All Stars team consisting of players from nations who aren’t competing in the Final.

Sydney Thunder will continue to monitor the public health situation in NSW to ensure HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup events can be held safely in accordance with government protocols to protect everyone involved.

Times for trials are subject to change and sessions may be split to adhere to social distancing measures in indoor centres.

Trudi Busch, Director of Marketing, Sponsorship and Community at HomeWorld, said the reason HomeWorld – who manage and develop the largest new home display villages across NSW – continue to support the Thunder Nation Cup is because its values extend beyond the cricket field.

“HomeWorld, alongside Sydney Thunder, is committed to making a genuine contribution to the community,” said Busch.

“We are thrilled to be part of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup, it is a wonderful initiative that brings communities together.

“The standard of the cricket played and the passion each player has for their team and country, make this a wonderful celebration of cricket and culture.”

The ACT edition of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup took place in December and was contested by 15 teams, with more than 150 cricketers playing across the day.

A Girls-Only HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup event will be held on International Women’s Day (8 March 2021). Secondary schools from across the Thunder Nation will be invited to to participate in a day of cricket, culture and empowerment. If you would like your school to participate, please contact Sydney Thunder.
