Young gun caps stellar BBL return with fan-voted award

Young gun Jason Sangha has been voted the Homestar Star of the Season for BBL|11 by Sydney Thunder fans.

After every match of BBL|11, fans had the opportunity to award three votes to the player they deemed to be the best for that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third best.

It was a tight race between Sangha (12.32 per cent of votes) and Pakistan pace ace Muhammad Hasnain (12.08 per cent). Daniel Sams, Alex Hales and Matthew Gilkes rounded out the top five.

After forcing his way back into Thunder’s side, Sangha made the number three position his own with 445 runs in 12 innings, the fifth-most runs of all players in the tournament.

The 22-year-old scored three half-centuries, including an unbeaten 91 to lead Thunder to a New Year’s Eve victory at Adelaide Oval.

The part-time leg-spinner also claimed four wickets and captained the side to two wins when Acting Captain Chris Green was ruled out as a close contact.

Sangha capped off a brilliant comeback with a place as an X-Factor in the star-studded Team of the Tournament.
