Players will reach nine communities across two days next week

Sydney Thunder players will virtually visit nine communities across NSW and the ACT across two days next week as part of the club’s ongoing commitment to regional engagement.

This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the annual regional engagement initiative will be delivered remotely by players and local Community Cricket staff.

Fast bowler Chris Tremain and young gun Matthew Gilkes will drop into the ACT via video, visiting schools and cricket clubs to inspire the community to love and play cricket.

Tremain, who hails from the small town of Yeoval in NSW’s Central West, said it is so important to connect with regional communities during this time.

“Being a country boy myself, I know what it means when International, state or Big Bash cricketers pay a visit to your school or club,” said the 29-year-old paceman.

“It’s such a thrill and it’s what inspires those dreams of playing for the Thunder.

“Although, we can’t be there in person this year, we’ll do our best to put a smile on the kids’ faces.”

Teen sensation Phoebe Litchfield and new recruit Anika Learoyd will be connecting with schools and clubs across the Central West.

Litchfield, who hails from Orange, said it is really special to give back to the community that has given her so much during her young life.

“The Central West is home, and inspiring Thunder fans in the region is really important to me,” said Litchfield.

“These are the types of things that drove my dreams as a young kid and I hope we can do the same.”

Sydney Thunder’s purpose is to be a loved club that inspires and unites the Thunder Nation.

With engagement stretching across Western and Southern NSW and the ACT, the club exists to give back to the community.

Underpinning all community initiatives is a focus on inclusiveness, ensuring cricket is a sport for all.

Registrations to play cricket this summer are now open. Head to playcricket.com.au tro find your local club.
